hey i was wondering, does the brand or type of basking lights matter??like how reptisun is the best uv light, would there be a #1 basking light??i was using a zoo med and now have to use a exoterria(spelling)...they are the same watt, just different name..i hate when this happens,i wake up,go to turn the lights on and one of the 2 don't turn on..i have been having bad luck with the lights, this keeps happening, but this is the first time the basking light went bad some how..hope to hear back from someone soon..

No, basking lights don't really need to be any specific type or brand. As long as it creates heat and bright light they should all work. I use regular house incandescent bulbs or halogen porch spotlights in large setups. For the higher wattages I use ceramic sockets as the cheaper plastic ones tend to overheat and fail. The UV brand does make a difference as most bulbs marketed as "full spectrum" just don't produce much of the correct UV. Independent testing still rates the Reptisun 5.0 highly compared to others. If you want to use the combination UV and heat spots the brand may make a difference, but I have not tried them. They are touchy, produce a lot of heat that can burn if put too close, relatively expensive, and can explode if they get any spray.
