how do you find them scott, perhaps you could email me on pete@bigsnakes.co.uk, I have mambas, and I would like to get a taipan but would like some advice.

Scott Eipper Jun 25, 2003 04:24 AM

Pete,

I all honesty probably one of the easiest elapids to keep of the Australian species with the exceptions of Pseudechis and Notechis.

My snakes as a rule a not "headed" and handled very gently allowing for minimum stress to the snake.

They are however very fast, can be nervous and when defensive they can strike faster and are very accurate than most elapids.
Coastals a snap release and very agile while inlands are chewers and slower...more like a Pseudonaja.

Hope thing helps,

I am told they are similar to black Mambas but I have never seen one in the flesh let alone handled them

G'day all,

The following two pictures show just how a female Papuan taipan goes about expressing her opinion about papparazzi following her around ...

If you see this image in your viewfinder, you KNOW you are about to have a VERY BAD DAY ...

and if you stick around after that long enough (about 1/60th second actually) to see this image ...

then maybe it is time you changed your shorts ...

Cheers

David

I would think she's putting on a "Happy Face": depicted in the first image. The second image is self explanatory ! ! !

Cheers,

>>I would think she's putting on a "Happy Face":

She is. Happy, as in "Go on, punk, make my day!"

Or, more likely in the case of a taipan, "You've just made my day".

Cheers,

Wolfgang

Hi again all,

A few more pics to brighten everyone's day. The subject is a 2.5 metre male Papuan taipan...

First of all check out these pointy bits ...

On with the job ...

Check out the yield ... a massive 800 microlitres!!

And I thought only babies drooled ...

This is one of the nicest looking Papuan taipans I've caught ... check out the eyes and the salmon-coloured ventrals!

Cheers

David
