my 3-toed's growing up

biowarble Dec 22, 2006 05:39 PM

When I feed my baby three-toed, he he eats more and more veggie/fruits every time I think. I give tiny slices of tomato (from grape tomatoes), Nature Zone Tortoise Bites, ReptoMin SoftGel, and squash baby food BEFORE giving earthworms or wax worms. The turtle's favorite seems to be the tomato, but bites are taken of others too.

And, just sheer volume.... the turtle eats a fairly large earthworm or three wax worms every day.

And, the turtle spends more time walking around after feeding/soaking now before digging into the moist Sphagnum, suggesting "he" is less shy I guess.

Awww they grow up so fast...
I took my western painted to the vet the other day- his first time ever to see a vet.
Turns out what I thought was a problem isn't so I'm happy about that but I realized he outlived the dog we got the same year we got him.
He's been here longer than any other pet now.. time flies too fast!

I have raised 4 clutches of Three-toeds. They have all readily taken to vegetable matter within a few months. Variety is the key-not only for their continuing interest, but also for their health. Try different items over the months. They like tomatoes, so stop using it for now and go on to another good food item like grated carrots, red leaf lettuce, red grapes and apples. They won't forget they like tomatoes!
