I just got a good bonus from work, but still cannot decide between the Nikon D80 and the Canon Rebel XTI. If I could find the right package, with a macro and all, on Ebay, I would buy it. I just do not want to get the wrong one for $1200, and then see the right one for less, or just purchase the wrong lense. After all, it is all about the lense.

wrong, it's all about the lighting. the best camera in the world can't take a great pic in horrible lighting.

Dave, You can't go wrong with either one. I own both Canon and Nikon, they are both great. If you don't have any lenses I think I would go with the Nikon though, I think their CCD
sensor (the extra cost) is a little sharper then Canons CMOS sensor. Just know that Nikon accessories are a little more expensive as well. And Josh is right it is all about the lighting. I can get just as sharp an image with my $85.00 kit lense as I can with my $500.00 lenses.

ok, assuming I get a Nikon or Canon, what is a good macro lense for each, probably going to buy a camera this weekend.

Dave, to be honest with you I would not recommend a true macro lense as your first lense. I would recommend a short to medium range (28-200mm) telephoto lense with a macro function. This will be more versitle then a true macro and if you need to get closer then 12" you can use an extension tube which will cut your minimum focus distance in half. Unless you are going to flip for a ring flash as well, getting to close with a on-camera flash will produce a dark shadow across the bottom of the frame. I prefere high magnifaction with a little extra distance to allow your flash to fill in.

I think that his little face is irresistable...then again, I *may* be biased considering I am currently holding him in my hands! I got the little guy awhie ago from Dave, and I couldn't be happier with him. He's my first mojave, and I love the granite-y speckles that this guy has on him. Great temperament and awesome feeding response too. I say you can't go wrong with a mojave! Thanks again Dave.

Lauren, I am glad to hear he is doing well. I was browsing some old pics and found them, thought his "face" was very cute.
He has some great coloring, definately send some pics of his offspring, I would love to see them.
