freshman question

fauxsanity Dec 23, 2006 04:14 PM

My older snakes slowed down eating..They're both around the same age.. my guess in their hatchdate is summer of 2005. I thought they'd go till they were three years or so, but I've read all the posts and decided to go with experence (AKA Bluerosy) My MBK quit eating 20 days ago(according to my records. I put him in the basement in a quiet/dark room with water in his bowl. I'm waiting till my california king has gone two weeks from last feeding before I put him in the basement also. My question is, I know that I should check on them and fill the water around once a week, but what am I looking for with the snake? don't they just slow down and lay there while in brumation? thanks

If one of your snakes are moving around and seem nervous during brumation it may be a sign that something is wrong. Take out the snake and do a physical inspection. Check for mites, mouthrot or anything else.

Also make sure you give the water bowl a good scrubbing every three weeks and smell the substrate to make sure there are no unusual smell like mold..

Basically use good common sense to make sure the snake is healthy and the cage is kept clean.
