fastjunkie Dec 23, 2006 07:17 PM

I've had a cbb sorrong gtp for about 2 1/2 months now. When I got him I was able to get 3-4 meals in him,but he never deficated.I took him to the vet to have him checked and a routine worming and the vet was able to squeeze fecal matter from him.Since the vet check I've got 3 more meals in him,but still no POOP!!!My temps and humidity levels are great and my other snakes do just fine in my snake room.He has also shed just fine for me.I know I can soak him in warm weater, but will I have to do this weekly?is there maybe something wrong with my snakes "plumbing"?
Thanx all!!!

Pythons as a rule digest far more slowly than other species and do not deficate as often. My one Sorong has gone as long as 2 1/2 months between. I've gone to feeding every 2 weeks to avoid not feeding her for long periods. Usually I will feed every week or so until they've had maybe 5 feedings. Once she starts getting full looking at the rear, I stop feeding. Going to every 2 weeks seems to work better. Usually she'll deficate before I have to stop feeding her. You can bathe yours if you like or make a rain chamber using a large tub with holes in the top and bottom and a perch inside. You then place the whole thing in the shower and let them sit in the running shower for 20-30 minutes. I wouldn't be too worried though. The babies usually go every week or more than once a week, but as they get older, they go less often.

Agree with everything Meg says. Another technique is to do the warm bath in the bathtub and let the snake swim a bit. The serpentine motion combined with warm water often does the trick. Make sure to supervise every second, let the snake rest with support frequently, and don't heat the water too much - I do 88 degrees or so.

I recently had a constipated 55 gram OC CBB baby and the swimming did the trick - a nice poop almost right away, after soaking only had failed. Two things were interesting in this case:
- the feces (not the urate) was very granular and dry, and
- the snake drank for what seemed like 5 minutes solid when first put in the tub

So evidently the snake was dehydrated, despite fresh water every other day and daily misting. I changed the cage around so that the water bowl was directly under the usual perching spot, and now actually offer water daily, lifting the bowl up to her after refreshing the bowl with cool water and misting with warm water at lights out. Hopefully she'll get the idea, but now I'm attentive to her drinking, whereas before I had perhaps taken it for granted.
