Bearded Dragon Gone Mad need help PLease

Urinefetish Dec 24, 2006 12:48 PM

Up until a month ago I had the sweetest little beardie. He didnt eat alot of veggies, but one day I gave him mealworms and he was neverr the same. He hisses and bites when we walk pas the cage. Getting him out to clean or even to hold is terrible. He has to bite an object and be distracted in order for me to catch him. Then he just bites more and freaks out. All of the time. I took the mealworms away and he is on a veggie and cricket diet. However still crazy for going on two months now. Can anyone help?

Your beardie isn't happy. I don't believe it has to do with the mealies. Check all the basics, temp, food, light, supplements, etc. I've heard of this before, sometimes when they get to sub adult they get like unruly teenagers. Be patient with him and don't let him win and he will calm down again hopefully. I agree that you should research on the internet as I too have seen articles on this. Let him associate your hand with a treat. When you reach in give him something he likes. Like Silk or Phoenix worms maybe.

It's called the terrible 12's, Because it happends at 12 months or 12 inches, can't remember. But yes it's like adolesence, usually worse in males. Make sure it's not an enviromental or diet issue. Could there be someone around teasing your beardie? Because this can cause a bad attitude also.

I dont think this is about the mealworms too.
But monitors and tegus realy can get food agressive this way.
I agree the cause may be he is ready to breed, so he is looking for a female to mate and a male to fight!
I read the same hapens to male iguanas.
Be patient with him, ok?
