My snake has a drinking problem........

caz223 Dec 24, 2006 10:55 PM

He just can't handle his everclear.
Let me explain.
He bites me every time I handle him.
I have many kings, and he is the only one that latches on and won't let go. To try and prove to him I wasn't a threat, tonight I handled him, and of course, he latched on and hung on.
I went to sleep on the couch, waking up every 20 minutes or so.
Well, 2 hours and he still hung on. 2 hours of no motion, and no escalation. He began to try to swallow my finger and I stopped the experiment with a drop of everclear in the corner of his mouth.
I have never seen a snake this stubborn.
Have I met my match, or am I missing something.

well you could try training him!!
and your almost their. what i do if i get a snake in like that is to have rubbing alcohol handy and every time the snake bites me i use a qtip and put a dab in his mouth WhILE HE IS ATTACHED AND BITING ONLY and after about 5 times of the alcohol they normally never bite me again....
its just repetition he will associate the alcohol with his biting you and eventually learn not to.

Well, the alcohol trick works as far as the snake lets go immediately.
But I have got him in the corner of the mouth hundreds of times.
He lets go immediately and does a little break dance, but if 15 minutes elapses since his last 'drink' he forgets, and bites me again.
He seems more reluctant to bite if I wash my hands in alcohol and he smells it, but it evaporated quickly, and he forgets about it as soon as the smell and taste are gone.
Maybe he likes the taste of everclear?

Try feeding him as many mice as he will eat. The leave him be for a few days and try to handle him. Also try cooling him down for an hour before handeling Tom Stevens
I did have a Cal King that bit me every time I held him for 13 years...some just bite I guess.....

That is the only time he doesn't show any interest in biting me.
Full belly, wait until the lump just disappears, then I got one day that I can handle him, but as soon as he dirties the cage, the war is back on.
