I just finished loading under the tree with presents for the kids at 1 AM and thought I heard a noise in the snake room.
Thinking it might be Santa, I took a peek - my wife telling me I am hearing something that is not there, but its a good excuse to take a break and look at the snakes even if I made it up.
I pondered in there with flash light in hand and checked a few cages and spotted 2 little babies sitting on their momma (T. fasciatus).
The funny thing is that momma arrived months ago and was orderd to be a male, but ended up being female, and I had not even noticed she was gravid as she lost some weight since acquisition 2 months ago.
And even funnier is that yesterday I traded some snakes for a pair of adult fasciatus to get a male, and heck, the babies are a pair.
She still looks like she might have more babies to drop and I can only hope but can say that this has got to be one of the best Christmas Eves I've ever had.
This species is only known from a tiny island in Indonesia and perhaps might be the first born in captivity. If indeed true, it must be noted for literature that Santa brought them.
