Albino Female seems to be gravid - Help!

mdvrep Dec 25, 2006 02:17 AM

Hi everyone,

I used to be on this board a few years ago and have just come back on. I have three leo's housed in one large enclosure. 1 normal male, 1 normal female, and a albino female which is my most recent acquisition. Although she is quite young (i'd say about a year) I think she is pregnant. I have been a worried since she hasn't been eating for about 2 weeks. Her tail has shrunken in size but shes quite plump in the belly. When looking at her belly there are blue blotches and what looks like what might be eggs but its quite hard to tell. Although I have kept a few different kinds of lizards in the I have never had to deal with pregnancies. How long does it usually take for a female to lay? Is there any other tell tale sign to make sure shes pregnant? If some of you could give me some help here it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

If you can, you may want to isolate her until you know for sure what the problem is, especially if she's a recent acquisition. Somehow, 'blue spots' doesn't quite sound right and while leos can lose weight through egg production the 'thin tail' symptom sounds a tad odd. Depends on just how thin we're talking about.

A photo might help if you can post one.

Well really shes just my MOST recent acquisition, I got her in June I believe and shes been very healthy up until a week or two ago. I'll try to get a picture up in a minute.

heres some pictures i just took of the leo in question. I also posted a couple of my other 2. Any suggestions?

(ps. i havent posted pics on here in a while so it may not work 1st try)

After taking these pictures I put her back in her enclosure and as I was leaving I noticed she let out some clear secretion. Could this be the water breaking (do they do this) or just the start of a poop?

Heres a couple of my male and other female.

That blue is probably the liver, this is normal. jk Anyway if you don't have a book with pics in it google images of leo eggs and see if yours looks like others. also a year is 4 months past maturity so this is fine. As long as you have a good moisture box and its not below 74 in there just check once in a while to see if they were laid.
