Calming a 4ft water monitor down?

Bazilla Dec 25, 2006 09:23 PM

Howdy! Here's the deal. I have a 4ft water monitor thats been pissy since it was a hatchling. Hasnt been handled much at all since he was about a foot long. He has always been very shy and wouldnt even eat in front of me before but now he attacks anything at the end of a pair of feeding tongs which is good.

I want to tame him down and need some advice on how to do this.

I was thinking of making him a 10ft x 6ft walk in enclosure (he has outgrown his 6ft long enclosure now). I thought making this enclosure a walk in enclosure where I could go in a sit with the monitor might help in taming him.

Any thoughts and advice from experienced water monitor keepers?

Cheers

Baz

Ended up moving to a new house so in the process noe of my animals were handled much.

Anyways how about some tips on calming this little dude down? If it cant be done then it cant be done but Id want to give it a shot.

A water monitor, acting like a water monitor. Water monitors do not like or trust people(with good reason).

To inflict our oddball wishes on them is not for their good, but only for our weird needs(we all have them) Forcing a monitor to like us(become tame) has not a thing to do with the benefit of the monitor.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against monitors liking people(becoming tame) Its just not something that should be rammed down their throats. And specially with beginers. They should think about and worry about and be most concerned with allowing their animal to become and stay healthy. Cheers
