Female Whitethroat delivering eggs!

robfaust Dec 26, 2006 01:54 AM

A few weeks ago I posted a picture of my oldest pair of Whitethroats breeding. That same female is finally depositing her eggs as of 1:20 a.m. or so. I'm leaving her alone for now and will dig up the eggs when I get up in the morning. That is of course if she's finished. This Christmas was already pretty good, but now it's perfect! Only a monitor person could think that. Good grief we're weird people! hahahaha!
I'll post pics later.

I dug up thirty-five eggs. Three were deflates and one was "ify", the other 31 look perfect. Those "ifys" are almost always duds but I'll give it a chance. I put 32 in the incubator and left her alone to cover and back-fill the nest. She is just finishing now (1:30 pm). It's interesting to me that they will continue the whole nesting process to completion even without eggs.
My albigularis egg usually incubate for 20 weeks (4.5 months), so they should hatch early to mid May 2007. I'm sorry about not having good pics. I took a couple but the lighting was terrible.

Congrats sir. I waited until you dug up eggs, no counting them chickens before there laid. hmmmmmm or something like that.

Explain to me how you take the eggs before the female is done. Mine lay way down in burrows, can't seem to get a camera down there. hahahahahahahahahahaha

I think its very important to let them finish. Even if you think they don't know the difference, they do know whats going on. They just don't react the way you think they should.

The best way to promote behaviors is to allow them to complete their behaviors. Cheers
