Eastern Kingsnake Neonate

Since I was so politely asked by DISCERN to post pics of my new chain kingsnake baby if I could catch him.

Well today he poked himself out of the substrate to see why the light had turned on and skittishly inspected my hand. Not a tail rattle or strike in sight, so I picked him up.

He was an angel, wasn't overly pleased with my cold hands (I have a circulation problem meaning they're usually cold) but wrapped his tail around my finger and explored my hands quietly.

I didn't have my digi around (it's on the other side of the city being lent to somebody) so I could only take pics with my camera phone. He didn't even spook at the camera shutter.

I promise I will get better pics as soon as I can grab my digi camera and catch him without stressing him again.

I picked him up at River City Reptiles, the local herp dealer where I buy my hoppers and got my other snake's 55 gallon tank. They told me about the new shipment of hatchlings they had in... I was sold on the spot once I saw a pretty lavender corn.

When I went in the back to check him out, they showed me the kings they had in stock knowing I had one at home and mentioned a gorgeously patterned chain kingsnake they had in. Push came to shove, and it was the chain that came home with me :D

I'm not sure if he's a mosaic pattern, I was given his breed, gender, feeding/weighing charts and a rundown on what ranges he prefers. I'll have to get a better pic so you can tell me!

He was way out of my budget, but then so was my grayband originally. I'd tell you all how much, but for those who catch graybands or pick them up locally for $60 or less would probably choke.

The other one I wanted (but couldn't afford) was a $699 mongolian something (I will have to ask again) baby patterned bright green and yellow over black. He required cool conditions and is the first captive bred in Canada. More than slightly out of my price range no matter than he was jaw dropping amazing. They really tried to sell him to me as my basement's natural temperature range is exactly what he needs (70 in the day, 66 at night) but no dice, I didn't have a grand to spend this time.

The place I got him : http://www.rivercityreptiles.net/

And the ratsnake I originally fell for is elaphe mandarina. So my memory is shoddy.. but he's still gorgeous!
