I chatted with a customer of mine from Brazil and he says that the zoo has no plans to breed the animal and the laws prohibit export.
This sounds most unfortunate.
Has anyone else heard differently?

I haven't heard anything much recently, but most zoos allow exchange programs with zoos or "conservation" programs from other countries regardless of export laws. There are some breeders that have great connections with zoos (if you know who I'm talking about). So, there are always loop holes if the price is right. Regardless of what people tell you almost everything has it's price... add in a little charm and some carefully worded inquiries and offers.... then give it a little time... and My guess is that this thing will be over here is less than three months. Anyone care to bet?

I hope you are right.
It would be a shame to see those "genes" not make it into the world of herpetoculture.
I am just afraid that some zoo in Brazil or here will end up with it and kill it by accident.
Thats an odd comment. Are Zoo's in brazil not very good at caring for snakes? There are good breeders all over the world, not just in the US.
according to my very reliable source and friend that lives in Rio De Janiero, " were the actuall two Leucistics were found " in a slum outside of the city. They are at the Niteroi's Zoo in Rio De Janiero and they do plan on breeding them and offering the captives for sale. It is very much " Legal " to export from Brazil. It has to be in the same manner as Peru. You can only export captive babies and that is it. Nobody has a successfull farm in Brazil and that is why that none are offered, but if you apply for the permits and go through the " red tape, " you can have a farm in Brazil and export C.B. babies, that are not endangered.........John

Everything you said makes sense.
I hope you are right.
Sure was a slick animal.
Do they have any males out of the two?
Kinda strange that they found two leucistics.
any specifics on these animals? age/date they were found/when they will be bred? That is by far the most kick-@SS boa Ive seen yet.... well, it's running a very close race with Rich Ihle's Scoria Boa.
Does anybody know anything about them?
