Name for a Female Dumeril Boa

Sesha Dec 26, 2006 05:15 PM

The 4 month old snake that survived a week-long trip to limbo (courtesy of UPS) hasn't shown any signs of respiratory problems (no symptoms that resembles what I have read about anyway).

I've been thinking about a name for her. There is a knife that is used by the Nepalese army and has been used for centuries. It is typically very small, but incredibly deadly. Its design is very simple and the knife manages to serve its purpose whereas more complicated knives have failed or lacked in efficiency. The older versions of the knife were highly decorated and very highly prized. It's a very nice piece comprised of simplistic design and high efficiency, both of which contribute to its beauty. The knife if called the Khukuri kukri.

(I collect weapons for appreciation of their design and beauty, not for any actual use. In the case of rifles and such, I do shoot on a regular basis for practice and hunting purposes.)

Khukuri would make for a very pretty name that could capture the beauty of the snake's intricate pattern and her "let's keep to the mission" attitude that she has (and most snakes I have seen). Plus, nicknames could easily be made as time progresses. It's not easy finding a name for an animal that can live for 20 years or more.

Sounds like a great name. However, just curious? Was the snake actually shipped with overnight UPS red labels and UPS Overnight stickers and tape, or was the snake shipped ground(black label) with no special red label by the shipper?

I still have the box...using it for a feed box since it probably smells familiar. The box is white, has "Perishable Handle with care" on the sides, red stickers that read "UPS Next Day Air," and a combination of clear tape and brown tape was used in wrapping.

She was sent on the 12th, due to arrive on the 13th, and instead arrived on the 19th. I've had for about a week now.

Apparently the person who filled out the UPS info did not know what they were doing. Glad she made it fine. Snakes are hardy creatures.....thank goodness.

Yeah, they are hardy animals. UPS rescheduled 3 times, so I had my heart sink three times before the snake arrived. The seller was incredibly angry with them. When I received her, he was overjoyed about her still being alive. UPS will refund the shipping, since she arrived within a week's time and not next day. Every few days, the seller asks about how she's doing. He explained some of the more subtle symptoms that may hint at a respiratory problem, such as holding her head up against the glass, holding her mouth open, raspy breathing, and such. However, if there is more I need know, let me know. She appears to be healthy, but I do know that snakes can hide health problems from untrained eyes.
