may have some real runny stools, not sure but maybe salmonella could be a concern as well.

Depending on the size of your Blacks, Cockatiels eggs, fertile or not, as long as they are fresh, are great once in a while (per month for example). They are obviously full of calcium.
Small hen’s eggs work if your animals are big enough.
Bantam eggs are good.
Wash them in warm water and serve them warm for more immediate response.
It is just interesting to watch them eat eggs at least once. They have to be gentle, and there is no head to grab. They approach it differently than a rodent or bird.
Over the years, I have found many, many wild animals that have just raided nests.
.
For a real experience, feed eggs to a Pit (a Bull, Pine, or Gopher Snake). They handle things a little different that a Rat. There is a surprise if you haven't done it before!!!!!!!!!!!

This may be an ignorant questions, hope not, but can you feed a store bought egg, from the grocery store, if size of the snake permits?

Not an ignorant question at all.
Get the smallest eggs you can, warm one in tepid water, dry it, and try it.
If your animal can't eat it, it will give up after trying.
No harm - no foul (or no fowl?)

MY black rats are about 6' each give or take a few inches. and i usually feed them small-medium sized rats(i know that seems big, but it only leaves a lump for 2-4 days. and i feed them every other week. since its a larger meal than i give my corns. if i feed them a few mice they still look hungry. so the rats are a lil cheaper and are all in 1 thawing step. i'm almost 100% sure, probably about 98% sure they could get down a chicken egg. well, at lest my chickens. there arent any xxl eggs from them!!! just plain ole pet chickens and a female cockateil who wants lovin real bad

See above reponse
Try it.
Normal hen's eggs are pretty large and captive raised BRs tend to have smaller heads from a life of easy hunting, but if you feed rats instead of mice to six footers, they might get them down.
Warning....
Cage cleaning is more odiferous after a few eggs!

Hey Kin!,That's a nice pic of your black ratsnake! Is that with your new camera? Take care !, Jeff

I feed store baught chickens eggs to my Taiwan Rats every month or so. I don't notice if the sools are runny or not, both my TW Rate hardley ever deficated out side their water bowls.

BillMcgElaphe Dec 30, 2006 03:40 PM

Do your Taiwans just digest the eggs like North American Rat Snakes do?
I once saw a wild Yunnan Beauty Snake (Elaphe taeniura yunnanensis) that had just raided a nest so I assumed that they do just digest them?????

dinodon Dec 30, 2006 10:07 PM

Yes they swollow them whole, and digest the whole egg.
