Update: 2006 Pastel Crystal Ball

Python Dreams Dec 26, 2006 11:36 PM

Here are some updated photos of the Pastel Crystal male produced this year. He has not refused a meal and has already gone through his second shed. You can see him start to change color and it will be interesting to see where he goes from here...
Let me know what you think,

How about that's the coolest BP ever????

The whole Crystal complex is easily the coolest thing to hit BP morphs in my opinion. Freakin' sweet man.

Yes the crystals and super stripes have opened new doors in the ball game for sure....
We have learned that some morphs bred to ( special ) females will produce amazing things...

I am still a little confused by the whole thing. RDR has something called phantoms which are mojave like,
that when bred together produce a crystal like animal. I wonder what the crystal mom would produce when bred back
to her son that is a crystal sib.

Another point of interest is that the crystal and super stripe can't be mass produced because if you breed 2 crystals you should get
white snakes, Mojave, crystals, and the special codom that makes the crystal. the same is true with the super stripe.

Hey I can ask can't I ?....... At any rate The crystal / super stripes are The Kings of the ball game to me.

Also RDR's original platty Daddy sure looks like a crystal. And makes sense that you get lesser , and platy daddies when you breed the special 1 back...

Crystal can be made with lesser, Mojave, butters, and something similar with woma to lesser, and phantoms.

I think you should be kind and post all pics of the mothers head ,belly , top side so we can eat ate the table with you! heheheh.......

Hey I can ask can't I ?.......any way great snakes and good job!!!!!!!!!

One problem with this statement.

"Another point of interest is that the crystal and super
stripe can't be mass produced because if you breed 2 crystals you should get
white snakes, Mojave, crystals, and the special codom that makes the crystal. the same is true with the super stripe."""

They could possibly be mass produced buy only by a few people and the level of mass production would require Tom to get rid of some males and females of the special trait so that those people with several super mojaves or lesser lucy's can make a super version of the special animal to plug into the white snakes. Granted it would take several years for that to happen but it could in theory be done. But hey it's a double co-dom which is still valuable to breeders, collectors and people that love beautiful snakes. I hope to be able to get into both projects (Superstripes and crystals) this comming year, they are a must have.

You are right. I let that 1 slip haha! But it's still years way.

Using a special male to super Mojave/lesser should only get a half clutch of crystals.
Now if there is a super special then it would be possible to get a whole clutch of crystals.
I was not thinking that far out because, I guess the super has not be proven , they haven't even released the special yet, as far as (I) know. Also doesn't Brian ( BHB ) have a lesser crystal.

joshhutto Dec 27, 2006 11:02 PM

yes bhb produced a lesser crystal this year. whether it is the same gene or not we don't know, but it looked very similar to the mojave crystal just lighter (which I think takes away from the combo). On another note, using the phrase mass produced can be a little misleading. What is considered mass produced? Is producing 100 of these considered mass produced or is it 1000? Either way, it will be several years before any one breeder can even produce 50 of these so Tom is onto something with the crystals. Even if the "special" trait is owned by other people and they just haven't done the correct breedings it's still a very valuable combo, just think of what you could do with that thing, imagine the crystal stripe or throw the yb gene in it and who know's what will come out of it.

Should get interesting down the road that is for sure! My Super Stripe (or Cyclone as I prefer to call em) is doing well and is over 650 grms at just under 6 months old.. He is about double the size of this picture now (taken back in late September). He still is feeding but does seem to be less aggresive towards food as he used to eat immediately and now it takes him a few minutes to decide if he wants to kill or not.. I haven't had much luck on young males , maybe this guy will prove me wrong, can't hurt to try at this size I guess.. I agree the possibilities with this morph are mindboggling and then some! Happy New Year from McCain's Reptiles...!

I think it's photoshopped - - I will have to reserve my opinion until I see that thing in person - please bring it by for personal inspection.

On second thought - people have been known to dye their snakes to make them more impressive - can you say Koolaid ball - so I'll have to keep the ball for a shed or two just to be on the safe side.

Of course there is always the possibility that you have come up with a new dying techniques that won't shed out - so I may have to keep the snake for a few breeding seasons just to see if it's genetic.

In all seriousness - it is my favorite of snakes - I can't wait to see it in person!

I think I know what the secret gene is and so do other people. But were not saying untill we prove it our selves.

If its what I think, they be massed produced soon. Just this year 4 diffrent people made Superstripes.

Thanks for the responses! It will definitely be cool to see what Spiders and Pins and other morphs do when mixed with the Crystal. Will be some crazy looking snakes in the next few years!
Here is the original Crystal female getting aquainted with a male!

Best of Luck there. I can't wait to see what might come of that breeding.
