Cactus

theredneckgal Aug 08, 2003 05:51 PM

I fed my uro catus for the first time today! He loves it! Hand fed him 2 or 3 pieces of it. My question is this can you feed him the catus with his greens on a daily basis or should I treat the cactus as I would flowers and only give it to him sparingly? Is anyone else feeding thier uros cactus? I just thought this would be a nice change for him and they are available year round at the store where I shop.

I have cacti in my uro's tank. He nibbles at them every so often. They provide a good snack as well as being a good source of water. They are the spineless variety. Plus, I find they make an attractive addition to the desert motif in the tank

Poison for uros? Cactus are? HELP!!! I already fed him cactus. I thought they were good for uros! These are broad leaf type cactus that you buy at the grocery store. The spines are already removed and we are careful to check them for any they may have missed. Is this type of cactus ok?? What does Christmas cactus look like????

Don't worry! If you got your de-spined cactus at the grocery store (safe for human consumption), you're fine. Christmas cactus is a specific critter NOT sold as food. It's sold decoratively, frequently in December, as you can force it into bloom around then. If you want some images to compare:
