Queen Ant

Does any one know who to talk to about getting a permit to import a queen ant? The only reason I have not purchased a HL is because of the cost of food. I live in Ohio, far from where these ants live. Also, where is the cheapest place for ants that people have found?

Fish and Game is who your going to talk to about getting a permit, i dont know much about Ohio's animal laws and codes so i don't know how hard it is to get one. Even if you get one, no one really sells queen ants because its so hard to creat a nest in ideal conditions, you'll need at lest 6 feet of dirt and they normal wont start a nest until 15 feet into the ground. Really it's easier just ordering alot at one timeand keeping half in the refridgerator. The only place that sells them is Life Studies. Good luck, and remember don't get and HL unless you can make the commitment of getting it the proper food.

No, No, NO.. it is not fish and game to contact, F&G could not care less about such things, contact people would be the USDA and your local state and county agricultural offices or extensions. However without valid reason you will not get a permit, just aint gonna happen. I agreee that raising your ants is not the best option but not for the reasons stated, you can raise good colonies in much smaller quarters, the big issue is just the speed at which they produce new workers, Not nearly fast enough to satisfy your needs.
