garter regurge

mysneakysnake Dec 28, 2006 04:34 PM

I just had a florida blue sided garter regurge after eating too many minnows...she can usually eat as many as a dozen and a half in one sitting, but this time she shot them back out about 12 hours after ingestion.

Anyone ever had this happen? I tried to refeed her some fresh minnows after the discovery, but there was no feeding response.

How long should it take for her to get hungry again?

I have not had a garter regurge but I would treat my garters just like my corns if I did have one regurge. The snakes lose a lot of important stomach acids when they regurge and it takes them a while to recover from it. Check the temps in the viv and leave the snake alone. It needs to recover. Try to make sure its living conditions are as close to ideal as possible - appropriate temps and gradient and enough hides.

I would try to feed it 7-10 days after the regurge and only a very small amount.

Good Luck,
Joanna

That's what I was thinking...I've had corns regurge for whatever reason (I've learned that snakes vomit even in ideal conditions...for whatever reason) and have simply tried refeeding after about 7-14 days.

I used to try probiotics (like nutribac) but I feel that forcefeeding a snake that is more stressful than letting it try to recover on it's own.
