first cage

hey this would be my first cage im thinking od designing and building w/ help of course. ive got a young water montior and i was looking into a cage for a couple eyars until . i was thinking of something lik 6x4x3 ft. wat would be a cheap yet strong material that i can use..i heard plywood was good and fiberglass .can anyone give me ideas. 6x4x3 wont be the monitor final cage but its most of the room i have avialable now.

Plywood coated with polyester resin (often called fiberglass resin) is a decent choice, although I personally dislike working with polyester. From what I understand monitor keepers who use it are just painting it right on bare plywood and are not including at sort of fiberglass matting. The matting adds a lot of strength but is probably not necessary for this application.

At the size you are considering, just make sure you either build it on site and/or make it so you can take it apart. I do not recommend applying polyester resin in the same room where the monitor will be kept.
