I've decide that it's time to take Dozer to the vet, based on his "off" appetite and he's starting to loose weight.
The high temperatures in Utah have been hovering around freezing. Obviously that's a little cold for a Uro.
I'm thinking of placing him in an old pillowcase (like a snake bag) and placing that in a small Styrofoam cooler with a hand warmer taped to the side of the cooler. Do you think that would be sufficient to keep him warm enough for the ride to the vet? It should only be about a 15 minute trip to the vet, but in case we have to wait before seeing her...

Thanks for the insight.

I expect it would be fine. Make sure there's no chance of burns from the warmer.

My usual winter routine is the pillowcase method, in a box with a small folded towel. At the very bottom of the box is a human heating pad that I put on low heat about 15 minutes before we leave. It stays warm for the car trip (about half an hour), then I can plug it in again at the vet since it's always freezing there. They're very nice about finding me an outlet.

Make sure you warm up the styrofoam cooler in the house overnight first and put the handwarmer in the cooler at least a hour before you put in the Uro. Put some shredded paper in the pillowcase so the uro can get away from the handwarmer in needed (some get pretty hot).

Warm the car up first then ride in the car WITHOUT your coat on. If you're comfortable like this and the Uro is in the cooler, you should be fine.

The most common mistake most people make is dressing warmly with thick coats then putting the Uro in a pillow cse in their laps and driving off. You then turn the heat down as you're hot in your warm cloths but the Uro is freezing!

In an emergency, (or if the car gets stuck somewhere and you have to walk) put the pillow case under your shirt next to your skin and put you coat on. This is usually plenty warm til you get back indoors.
