Ok to feed after pre-shed phase?

paulnola Dec 29, 2006 11:52 AM

We are trying to keep our little guy (annulata) on a 5 or 6 day feding schedule, but he in pre-shed and very milky right now.
Does anyone feed their snakes after the milky phase is done but before they shed? Or should I just wait the few days until he does shed? I really don't like the idea of him going 10 or so days without being fed, him still being a hatchling.

If the snake is due to feed and he/she will eat I'll feed it. I still consider myself relatively new to snake keeping (2 yrs snake experience), but I've yet to see any negative affects from this. I've got some snakes ('05 Speckled King female & my 2 Gophers) that will eat while opaque. My daughters Milk has done this also. Just my observations.

I will usually give a snake in blue the opportunity to eat, but I would reccomend that you don't give it a large meal that creates a large bulge in the snake. Give it a meal on the smaller side so it doesn't make it difficult for the snake to crawl out of the skin. If the snake refuses, don't worry, that's quite normal.

Good luck.
