Two-story Sterilite cage idea

Upscale Dec 29, 2006 06:47 PM

Check out my post on the Cage & Habitat Design forum, I am experimenting with a two-story design with Sterilite tubs for bigger colubrids and/or breeders. Sorry about the rat, it showed up best in the pics! Check out more in a longer post in the “proper” forum.
And thanks for looking!

That's actually kind of cool.

I did that before with rubbermaids. Was more difficult to clean the "2nd story" floor though. Just a bit more work. I used pvc fittings to hold the lids/bottoms together. Snakes seemed to like it and it worked well for grayband breeders etc.
If you want a 2nd floor, it may be easier to get the deeper boxes (twice as deep/high) and place a home-made divider that has a hole in it inside. Just one lid to deal with.
Either way, it is good to see others experiment with giving their animals more in the way of choices and stimula.
Keep us posted.

That is an awesome idea, esp. for burrowing snakes. I'm thinking of my Glossy snake in particular. I'd probably set up a darker sterlite tub on the bottom to give him the feeling that he's underground.

I had similar idea for a rack system using only one sterilite. it fit under a shelf with hole cut in the shelf to allow snake access to the totally enclosed upper area that itself has hinged opening door on the front.
