Those picture where taken with two different cameras.
The spider (arachnid) was taken with a Nikon CoolPix 5700 5mega pixel point and shoot. It is a real macro monster and Nikons
CCD sensor is very sharp. I use to work in a photo lab and recomended the nikon CoolPix above all other point and shoots.
The only problem with any point and shoot is the shutter lag.
The time it takes from when you push the button to the time the camera actualy capture the picture is to long in my opinion.
You almost have to anticapte the shot and pull the trigger right before it happens.
Now to the other pics. they where taken with the same camera, but two different lenses. The camera is a Canon 10D digital SLR
6 megapixel. I love Canon and due 99% of my shooting with this camera. It is very fast at 3 frames per second (newer models are even faster 5 fps). The Cmos sensor is not as sharp as the Nikon, but it is most often mistaken for film. The lenses I use Canon. The first is a 28-135mm telephoto (the spider shot) with Image stabalization and an ultra sonic motor (very fast). The second lense is 75-300mm lense (the wasp/ skipper shot) with image stabalization and the USM, also fast, but not as fast as the 28-135. The image stabalizer really helps to reduce camera shake when working without a tripod. Both lenses have macro zones, but are not true macros. For that I use an extension tube which increases magnifacation and reduces the effective focal range. I top it all off with a Canon EX580 Speedlite. So there you go my set-ups, in total when I bought them five and six years ago about $3200.00. Not to bad considering we're spending that much on one ball morph. And by the way I still recomend Nikon Coolpix to any one.
Jeff
I've heard that the Nikon Coolpix really eats batteries. Is that you experience? BTW thanks for the info. I'm really leaning towards a point and shoot. All of my recent pics were taken with a Kodak Sureshot. I used to do a ton of photography and had several SRL's. I still have an Olympus OM1 film camera. These digital cameras sure kick butt IMHO.

Vichris,
I have two Nikon point and shoots (CP2000 & CP5700) the CP2000 takes AA's and I always use Energizer Lithiums. The CP5700 came with a rechargeble Lithium Ion Battery and I purchased an extra one. The camera is not what chews up batteries, its the little TV on the back. I use quick prereviews and auto shut-off. good Luck.
Jeff
Hey jeff sounds like you know a bit about camers!
I know its not about the reptiles but would like to get you opinion? I love working with the old slr film cameras , Especially for black and white portraits. I currently have an canon av-1,Canon ae-1, Yashika fx-3,and an old yashica fixed lens. I have been looking for a nikon f2 and there are different finders dp-1,dp-2 etc . What is your opinion on this camera and what finder would you recommend. Thanks Bryan
Hey Bryan, I don't know any thing about the finders you mentioned. But before digital started to take over I had several customers (wedding photogs) using both the AE1 and the
The F2. The people that used them all loved them, and took great photos, but we both know that good equipment is only half the battle. good luck with your photography.
Jeff
Cannon S-70 fairly cheap, can be point and shoot or play with the settings.....for the price, I am happy with it

Hi Vichris,
