its a couple years old but the Nikon Coolpix has been a good and easy to use, fairly cheap, draw back is it chews up batteries
Some other on a couple other forums have also recommended the nikon coolpix. I've seen some really nice pics from it. Do you have any pics you want to post?
-----
Vichris
all pics in my gallery were taken w/ coolpix

My wife bought me a Panasonic DMC-FZ7 Lumix SLR as an early Christmas present. I don't know how to use it yet, so I can't really give you pros and cons. I must say, though that simple and macro modes on this thing are awesome! I've been having a lot of fun the past few weeks.
Here's some examples:

I use a Sony cybershot DSC-P41 4.1 MP (newer/better versions are around now) ... cost me $179 Shipped to my door about 3 years ago... I'll be upgrading to the Cyber-shot DSC-T50/B soon 7.1 MP smaller/thinner, bigger LCD display (3 inches) faster shutter speeds (Optical Image Stabilization) for those squirmy hatchlings ... lots of other cool features and a funky new look. I've heard than Canon's are pretty good my girlfriend is getting one pretty soon so I'll take a few pix with hers for comparison.
Here's photos with my older version. These pix were actually taken using a low setting (1 MP) just for a smaller size i'm sure if taking with a Higher resolution the pix would have been even better....

I used a 2mp Kodak for a long time. The one I use mostly now is only a step higher at 4mp. Zoom is great, but not for great pics. And close-ups are fair. I think I paid less than $250. back when I got it, and you can do better nowadays for that price.
Randomly...
Diamonbacks...

FL scrub jay (taken blindly when the bird was on my head)

a friend found the baddest pine I have seen in recent memory..

AZ mtn. king...

ghost FL king...

goinimeansi

a friend's FL king..

when I was in PA over the 4th...
red backed sally

red eft

another find by a friend..(short-tailed snake)

adult mole king..

and a closer pic of the baddest pine I've seen in years....

I'm still using a 2MP Kodak. I've had pretty good result with it too. Are you saying your using a 4MP Kodak? Those are some excellent pics and I'm not just saying that to be polite. There are only two pics that the focus is even slightly "soft".
Specifically which camera are you using?
-----
Vichris
Well thanks Chris. Yeah, I just kinda grabbed a few pics to post. If they're out of focus, it's my fault. It's a dx6490 and I'm sure it's obsolete. You can get one online for sure. It has 10x optical zoom and 3x digital. Skip the digital part usually. My son has the dx7590 (5mp) and it is definitely a step up. Also replaced by the z models.
The battery in the dx and some others lasts forever and I can keep it in my truck for more than a week and not have a worry if I happen upon a critter to photo. I do have some extra macro lenses I bought but never use,and I occasionally will use a uv one. They screw on the front.
I'm looking at the p712 or p850,p880 next (when they're clearanced somewhere, haha)since I have some accessories and battery already...
Anyway,a camera is only as good as the user in any case....
