Hi everyone, I am a new member from Oregon. I also posted the following question in the Oregon Herp section, but this may be the more appropriate place for it.
Although the State of Oregon has no laws governing the captivity of crocodilians, the County of Multnomah does have an ordinance forbidding them to be kept 'as pets'. Exempt from this ordinance among others are licensed exhibition animals. I am involved in an educational crocodilian program in another county that is entirely unregulated. As such, we have no permits to show the animals. The orgnization has insurance coverage against damages arising from exhibiting reptiles, but that is all. I would like to create a similar program in the Portland/Multnomah County area. I would like to acquire and house one of the rescue/rehab animals that we have available the other program.
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding the licensing/permit process in Multnomah? I would want the permit to include housing the animal in a dual (commercial/residential) zoned area, and requirements for taking the animal into schools, churches and day camps for educational purposes. If you have gone through any similar process, I would also like to also know any details on specific mandates that govern the facility and its location.
Thank you for any help or links you can provide.
