neurological disorders?

Pythona Dec 31, 2006 08:45 AM

Does anyone have links to articles, Info or experience dealing with neurological disorders in snakes?
Sometime between 1am and 5am this morning one of our male BPs died, and although my fiancee is going to autopsy it, I was curious to find out info on illnesses and disorders that can't be seen or detected. He was a rescue, with lots of scar tissue from a rat attack, but otherwise a healthy male with a big appetite...He was my first BP of my very own and I have got to know what made him sink his own teeth into himself. I have pics to post if anyone cares to see them

Kelly, Very sorry to hear this. I had a female Boa that did the same thing before she died. In my case it was accidental exposure to "Adams flea off". These type of products contain inorganic phosphates. I also had a couple of Indian pythons get exsposed, but the vet was able to save them. I see you have dogs
and if you use any kind of flea or tick products your snakes are at risk to exsposure. My Boxers would rub on the carpet after being sprayed and I never thought that putting my snakes on floor would be enough to kill them. I dont know if thats what happened in your case, but I do not use any type of pesticides in my home any more. Hope this helps.

If you wouldn't mind posting pics, I'm interested in seeing them as well. When I was younger I left a rat in with my female overnight (I did not always have the knowledge I have now ) and it chewed her up pretty good and now she's got lots of scarring as well. How old was your snake?
In response to your question about neurological disorders, I for one can't think of any. IBD is the only one that comes to mind but my understanding of the disease is that it starts with "stargazing" and is pretty unmistakable as IBD.

Let us know how the autopsy goes, and sorry for your loss. At least the rescue had a good home for the rest of his life .
