Hey Guys and Gals,

I had an opportunity to adopt this gal today. The owner was one of my wife's friend's husband. He didn't want to care for her anymore and was going to give her to a pet store in Colorado Springs who's husbandry practices are poor at best. Didn't want to see a good snake go through that so she's at my house now.

Thanks for looking,
Jamie

P.S.
Any way to sex these boas without probing?

Beautiful snake. I have such mixed feelings about all of the boa breeding that goes on. They're cheap and everyone wants them when they're small but big snakes are definately not for everyone. Sorry.. I know you didn't ask. Good luck with the animal.

You can sex it by grabbing a hold of the tail just in front of the vent. slide the tail trough your hand gripping firmly. You're feeling for the hemipenes of the male. If they're there, you'll feel a pronounced bump (6 inches or so???) past the vent.

Glad to see that you are giving her a nice home since most pet stores have trouble keeping fish and mice alive. Pet stores would have been oblivious to her needs and thanks for posting the ot.

Oh man, that's a great picture and might I add a rather large and beautiful boa you got there.

Jamie,
....Good on you for rescueing that Boa. It looks pretty healthy. Just guessing looking at the PIC that it may be a female. Also just guessing looking at the PIC that it is a Bci from Colombian bloodlines.
