Recommended Enclosure Size...

amazinglyricist Aug 08, 2003 08:00 PM

I am planning on getting some more Bearded Dragons sometime in the near future, and am wondering what dimensions I would need of an enclosure for 1.3 of them. I was thinking 40" long by 20" wide by 40" tall.

4x2 for one (some people will put 2 females in 4x2, but the more room the better), then for each additional dragon add 4-6 square feet of floor space.... you can get away with keeping 3 females together perhaps, but youll not be able to keep the male in there with them all year long, yuo arent even guaranteed the females will get along with each other, so be sure you have extra set ups availiable.

48"L x 20"W x 18"H is the minimum size I would use. I do know people using a 3' cage though. make sure all animals get along or they will have to be seperated.

More floor space is always a good thing so go as big as you can. make sure they have the proper temp gradient and a good basking spot.

The tank you are thinking of using is barely large enough for a single adult dragon. For a group of 3 or 4 adult dragons, better to go as large as you can, at least 6'x 2'x 2'.

Actually it's not a tank, I'm planning on building it. And actually there would 4 in there every once in a while when I introduce the male for mating. And the other one won't be in for quite a while, because it's just a baby yet(8 or 9 weeks), so really only for 2 and the male for a while every once in a while to mate. But that is why I was asking, so I know if I need to go bigger for them. Thank you all for all of your help so far. I have 1.2.1 and they're very nice lizards. The first one I had was really mean, and tried to bit me constantly, my parents made me get rid of it when I lived with them. but now I have beardies for good.
