Recordkeeping sheet help

Upscale Dec 31, 2006 06:48 PM

I have out grown keeping note cards for each snake, which I have always done. They got to be a pain in the neck. Now I keep care sheets or whatever you would call them, records, on a sheet of paper in a tabbed notebook. Hey, what took me so long? I like this way! I made a sheet with Word and am including a sample photo and a link to a .pdf of the sheet I am using if you want to copy or critique it. If you have something that works better for you, please share.

Thanks Beaker 30 and blueselaphe for your input when I posted a question about recordkeeping back in September. I can’t do Excel, so I made this to write it down the old fashioned way.

Here’s a picture of my book, opened at random to a typical sheet, except this one is pretty new. (PB Shed= post brumation shed, PEL Shed= pre egg laying shed)

Here’s a link to a .pdf file you can print

For my neonates I'm using a spreadsheet and all I am currently recording is when they eat (and how much) and when they shed.

I don't use MS Office, I use a UNIX X11 spreadsheet called gnumeric
It's free software, I don't know if it has been ported to Windows or not (it does run in OS X but my understanding is only in X11)

I won't link to it - last software I linked to, thread was deleted - and I think I understand why (I know the software is clean, but KS doesn't - and sure, there's trojan possibility). But if you google "gnumeric" you'll find their home page. I know a windows port was underway, but I don't know if it is done.

For my adult snakes, I use pen and paper.
I use those black MEAD composition books.

I use one line to indicate the date, and what I am recording on that date (what it ate and how much, shed, cage clean, water change, fecal float results, etc.). When I weigh them - I put the weight in the margin, so that I can fairly easily track their weight ovder time just by looking in the margin.
