New iggy won't eat

alienpro Jan 01, 2007 09:23 AM

I just got a new iguana 4 days ago. he hasn't eaten since I got him and i'm not sure why. I am beggining to worry about him getting sick from mal-nutrition.

I have him in a 40 gal terrarium right now, he is only 3 months old. I have a UVB light and two heat lamps as well as a heat pad under neath the tank. he has lots to climb and plenty of heat I believe to digest properly. I have a food and water dish that are always full for him to eat or drink when he wants to as well. Right now he has a mix of raspberries, black berries, pears, green beans, radishes, collard greens, mustard greens, and parsley to eat. I've been taking him out and playing with him twice a day for at least 15 min at a time.

I have not brought him to the vet right now cuzz no0ne have been open due to the holidays. My current vet is also on vacation and will be for a further 5 days.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I love my pets and will do what ever is necessary for them to live a long and happy life with me.

P.S. I named him Whippy cuz the first time I picked him up he whipped me 5 times in the head and then ran on top of it and stayed there all the way home from the pet store =)

Your little iguana is under a ton of stress right now. My best suggestion is to leave him alone for a few weeks and only clean, feed, and change his water when necessary. He needs time to acclimate to a new home and new sights, sounds, and smells. To your iguana you are a predator and he's scared to death.

Alright, I wasn't sure about that, thank you. I'll let him be for a few but it will be hard =). Thanx for info!!!!
