Brumation Question?

crazydragon Jan 01, 2007 10:32 AM

I believe my beardie may be going into brumation! She's been hiding under her log for the last two days, her eating has slowed down because she's not always going under the basking light. She was doing fine, occasionaly starting to hang out on the cooler side of the cage. Should I leave her be or pick her up and put her under the light? She's just over a year old, weighs 420 grams. and is 18 inches long. The temps and everything in her tank is the same and her appetite was very good untill she started to stay on the cooler side. She looks healthy, eyes are cleared and she looks at me, stool looks normal. Thanks for your help!

If she's in good health, I'd let her do whatever she wants. I've had a dragon Brumate that was much younger and smaller/lighter (16" 250 grams) If she stops eating but stays semi active I'd just make sure she doesn't get dehydrated. A bath once a week or every other week and seeing if she'll drink from an eyedropper would be good. Otherwise when you see her weigh her, if she's not losing much weight then she's fine.
