First, thanks to everyone who gave me numbers:

Paul Buchanan (11), Celia from EBN(12), Dave(52), Jeff(84), jlogan(5), Linda(15), Mike(29), Milo(12), RinL(31) and patenaud(27). Together, we produced 278 Brazilians in 2006. Categories and winners are:

First clutch of 2006: Paul Buchanan on May 23

Largest Clutch: RinL with 31 babies!

Largest Baby (mass): Mike with 36.8g

Oldest Female: Jeff with a 15-year-old (you know what I mean)

Most total babies: Jeff with 84

It should also be noted that Jeff had a clutch of 7 Argentines born.

Congratulations everyone! Fantasic prizes have been mailed to all of you (but this time of year, many things tend to get lost in the mail).

Thanks for playing and remember, the 2007 contest has started today. As soon as you have numbers, share them with us.

I'd also like to try and get some more people to participate. Yes Bryan, I'm talking to you. Headhunter Reptiles, I don't see your name up there. I really think we have a nice forum here and it would be cool if it could become the hub of knowlege for rainbows. If you know of anyone who's breeding these guys, give them a little poke with a stick and get them to play (I'll work on the East Bay Vivarium).

Anyway, that's it. Happy New Year everybody!

Mike,
....Thanks for keeping these statistics. They are of great interest to many of us. I consider my 2006 results to be just fair. I have produced similar numbers of BRBs in many recent years but have done much better a few times and also much worse a few times. I know there is always the potential to produce many many more of them. In addition to my 84 live baby BRBs I had 7 stillborns and 43 slugs. I also had a couple of females that should have produced that did not. I would think that there were probably 4 or 5 US breeders who produced more baby BRBs than I did this past year. I do know one of them who had some very impressive results. That 278 live BRBs that we participants produced may only represent between 5 and 10 percent of all the baby BRBs born in the US. My litter of Argentinian Rainbows was my only production of live babies from the other subspecies for the year. My biggest disappointment of the year was losing a big gravid female Peruvian Rainbow that was carrying at least 20 developing recognizable babies. I know that some people may consider this post to be a case of sour grapes but I just want everyone to know that breeding these snakes is not so easy. My congratulations and admiration goes out to everyone who produces any Rainbow Boas. My goal is to produce a total of 250 baby Rainbow Boa babies from several different subspecies all in the same year. We do need to get more people participating on this forum and annual count of the babies.
Happy New Year,
Jeff

Wow Mike,
You are on it! Thank you for taking the time to do the work. I will try to improve my snake's statistics this coming season. I only know one person to poke....I'll give it a try.

Happy New Year to all of you!

Linda
