rootbeers.............

wisema2297 Jan 01, 2007 01:06 PM

Will be making my own this year and was curious if this is a cross with any emoryi or is it just with the meahllmorum? Everyone I've seen advertised was crossed with meahllmorum.
Meahllmorum male pic

female corn pic (she's twice this size now)

There realy hasn't been a distinction made between the three yet.
Emoryi, intermontana and meahllmorum.
Basically any of the three crossed with corns are considered the same.
I hope more of a distinction is made but it is a hard thing to do.

The only 'distinction' i have seen is that some breeders will tell you which of the other guttata subspecies it was crossed with... that's about it. Meahllmorum rootbeers tend to be greyer than emoryi rootbeers, and I haven't seen many intermontana rootbeers...

I don't know about the greyer part.
This a meahllmorun/corn rootbeer

Just out of curiosity.... what exactly makes the intermontana? And I seem to remember that they are illegal to collect now?

I was the one that named the rootbeer corns about ten years ago.I named them rootbeer cause thats exactly what they look like when they are the non amel version of a creamsicle.
I also produced anerys, hypos and ghosts that were still 50% emoryi.

Hey Shannon,
When I ask Don S, about emoryi crosses such as snow corn/emoryis and anery corn/emoryis he always referrs me to you.
I was wondering...usually around in circles...LOL.. but anyway..
I was wondering if you had ever thought about names for the snows and anerys.
We've played around with names a little but at this time there are only three that have basically become synonomous with emoryi/corn mixes.
Rootbeer...normal emoryi/corn
creamsicle...amel emoryi/corn...as we know this was originally for the ones with the orange creamsicle look but has basically
been adopted for any amel emoryi/corns
and cinnamons for the hypo emoryi/corns
I use emoryi mainly because it is the easiest to type but generally mean any of the three since there hasn't been a distinction made in these crossed to corns.
Any thoughts, ideas or opinions on the whole subject would be GREATLY appreciated.

I call snows with Emory "snow cones."
I'm not sure if very many have been produced.
Here are two that I hatched out last summer.

Hey Tim,
I remembered we had talked about a name for the snows but I just couldn't remember what it was. Getting senile.
I like "snow cones", seems like we had mentioned snowsicles as well.
I will make a mental note to remember snow cones...Of course, in my case a mental note is very likely to end up blank....lol

well, here in VA its supposed to be in the upper 60s lower 70s tomorrow so i might be able to take some outdoor pics so you can see their real color! i still havent named the motley yet. i was thinking of something cutesy like mottles but that sounds dumb. then i was thinking of a spin-off of jimmy. but nothing came to mind. i want something interesting so it could have a cool name like its siblings i'm sure i have a while to think but its frustrating!

Jimmy,

Well,I never ever used the term cream or sicle in any of the snakes I labled since there was no amel in my lines.I like the name snowsicle as it lets a person know that there was creamsicle (emoryi) in the mix.
With mine I just used the terms rootbeers, hypo rootbeers, anery rootbeers and ghost rootbeers.
It kept it simple and was what they were.
I always tried telling people that a rootbeer was just a non amel creamsicle.

Hope this helps.
Shannon

I will have to see if I still have a pic of one of the ghost rootbeers.Man they were killer.
Cool thing about all the ones I worked with was that they were still 50% both.I never back bred for anything.

I think most of my corn/emoryi mixes are 25 or 37 1/2% emoryi,
except my newest meahllmorun/crn rootbeer which is 50/50.
I have some nice '05 emoryis that I will be using to infuse more emoryi blood into my mixes when they are old enough.

I would love to see pics of the ghosts if you can locate them.
