Urgent Question: can I treat a minor ingury at home??

darcy Aug 08, 2003 08:22 PM

today my caiman happened to get a small fish hook in its tail.
I removed it right away but now I'm worried about possable infection. what should i do. the hook was not deeply imbedded. it went in through the skin on the bottom of the tail and came out about 1/4" from were it went in. it traveled just under the skin and only left 2 small holes. i washed the wound with betadine and completely cleaned the tank. any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
Darcy

Crocodilians have remarkable defenses against infection - they can get and entire leg ripped off during battle and suffer no ill-effects (other than the obvious). I would not worry about it unless it shows signs of infection, which I would deem highly unlikely.
