Fox Snake question

captnemo Jan 01, 2007 09:43 PM

Hi-
I recently acquired a snake which I am 90% sure is an Eastern Fox Snake. Are there any other snakes similar in size and pattern that also have a divided anal plate that anyone can think of (I'm much more knowledgeable about pythons than colubrids) What would be the best forum for this particular question? Also, does anyone have any idea as to the market value of this species, as I probably won't be keeping it. Thanks in advance.
Mike

you're in luck!!(LOL), look about halfway down on this same page, and you will see a post with pics of both Eastern and Western Fox Snake. Now you should have no trouble as to weather or not you have one of these....How convenient is that??.................Doug

Hey Doug...Thanks! Looks like I ID'd him correctly...probably should have scrolled a little further down before posting, but no harm....thanks for the response on the other forum as well!

Mike:
The only caveat I'd throw in is that it's not always easy to differentiate a western fox from an eastern. Some westerns look differently enough from easterns to make it easy. Others are dead-ringers. Check with the breeder to see if he knows.

These might help from 2005 archives, but, be advised, what jfirneno said that some Westerns can be deceiving some times. This is very true.
If you can post pics you could get more opinions than you’d like!!!! LOL
