sulfurboy1o3 Jan 02, 2007 12:35 AM

hey all, im interested in scrubs, i know there are differnt locales and stuff, i heard the moluccan can be the smallest. i love the coloration and head scales of these snakes.ive been probing around everywhere to to find a snake i would be happy w/ and ive come to a discision and i'd like to go w/ the scrub.

does anyone have tips i can use.? i know they dont eat a whole bunch because they hae problems w/ obesity and husbandry for them is kinda like a carpet python.
can someone also help w/ the different locales and the average size of each. i'd like to go w/ the smallest i guess.dont want it to be so huge.hahah i'd also wanted a male.

If you are looking for the smallest variety then Moluccan shouldn't even be a choice. They do get rather large, 10-12', heard of even larger.

I'd suggest you try to find some captive hatched Tanimbars. They average 6-8' and are absolutely beautiful. There are a few trying to breed them in captivity, and have succeeded, but the chances of getting a truly captive bred and hatched are very slim.

Moluccans do stay small relatively speaking. Small being 9-10 feet for a male. I have heard that some of the island forms stay smaller than that , but you would have to check around. Scrubs are alot like retics in the sense that they are always shipping in (New Locales) from different islands in indonesia. There hasn't been a lot of research done them so it's hard to say what the smallest might be, you never know there might be a dwarf island form out there waiting to be discovered. Remember they do eat a lot when they are young and can grow fast. Handle them as much as you can between meals it will make it much easier when it gets bigger.
