scale rot?!

j3nnay Jan 02, 2007 01:07 PM

I feel a little guilty for posting so much the last week or so.

Okay, couple questions about scale rot:

How long does it take to show up? My female has what I believe is a light case of it in a couple small spots on her belly (pics below) but I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong. I figure it's a combination of sitting on dirty substrate the week she had her eggs (she laid the day her cage was due to be cleaned), and then the way lately she's been dumping water all over her cage while I've been at work, leading to a sopping wet cage and snake.

However it occurred, I noticed it a couple days ago as I was looking her over after her pre-shed soak. She shed last night and the spots are still there. The only information I can find about scale rot is when it's in a more advanced stage, where it's actual blisters and other nasty things. What can I do to treat it when it's just these little spots?

Anyway, here's the pictures, and you folks can tell me if it's really the beginning of scale rot or if she's just dinged up her scales a bit.

I've found a way to keep her cage dry, for the most part, and cleaning out the papertowel every time she makes any kind of mess. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Just keep her dry and see if it progresses into something worse. At this point, that is very minor scale rot.
Just keep an eye out.
