Delaying the hatching

alreynolds2003 Aug 08, 2003 09:13 PM

Is there any other way of delaying the hatching of silkworm eggs after they arive besides having them equipped with an ice pack during delivery and putting them in the fridge. If they aren't suppose to hatch for a week after you receive them, could you just put them in the fridge or freezer?? I am obviously not a genious on silkworms, but any ideas on how to save some extra cash besides buying $30 from mulberry every time?

the fridge would work but they would eventualy hatch.

you can breed your own but i heard t takes 9 months for the eggs to hatch....that would seem to be for ever

How long can the fridge hold them up (min-max)?

the max in a fridge is 9 months. they will not eventually hatch in the fridge, it's just the most common way of giving them a winter. it's already been done to them before you get them, which is why the cold pack is neccessary.
