Wont eat

anthonyf78 Jan 03, 2007 11:54 AM

My burm is about 6 yrs old....he's a modest 11 ft....totally healthy and has always eatin nearly anything/anytime offered....but now he hasnt eatin since September 28....ive offered him his stock diet, thawed 4-5 lb rabbits about 4 times since his last meal....he just isnt interested....everything else is normal, he explores his cage regularly, sits in his water some and is just normal....should i be concerned. meanwhile my 2 yr old albino is eating every 10-14 days and is in the same cage so im pretty sure its not my setup thats bothering him seeing as he has been in that age for about 1 1/2 yrs. and he has lived with her for about a yr in the same cage...thanks

It's most likely nothing to worry about. Males will often go off of food in the months between Sep and March when they go into breeding mode. He may just have a hankerin to breed. I wouldn't worry too much unless his body weight begins to deplete too much and his health is obviously at risk. But that can take months if a burmese is very healthy to begin with.

I agree with Dave. It's most likely gone into breeding mode. He should revert to his old self about April or May. I do find it a little odd he hasn't done this at least once before considering his age though, considering his age. Watch it though, he'll be HUNGRY when he starts back up again .
