I for one felt pretty positive after ready that article. I would never support any law or ordinance banning or restricting pet ownership. But you have to admit that there alot of bone heads out there that should never own any type of pet. Any actions that try to enforce responsible pet ownership is a good thing, not only for the pets, but for other owners as well because we all get a bad "rap" for others mistakes. I read recently in my local news paper that florida is working on legislation that would require a permit for large pythons that get, I believe, 2 feet in circumference. They would also have to have the animals micro-chipped and the cages/housing inspected. None of which seems to unreasonable to me. I am getting very tired of all the bad press and misimformation in the media lately. No wonder all my neighbors think I'm crazy. Perhaps we should start tazzering these stupid owners instead of animal that never ask to be in captivity and is only following natural instincts when it bites and/or wraps. WOW! sorry for the rant, but two days ago there was another incident at a local pet attraction with a 14' Burmese that reportedly had not been feed in a month. Damm I'd be hungry too. And what does the poor snake get for his trouble? You guessed it. 50,000 volts.

In Auburn, NY they passed a city ordinance law banning all reptiles. You can't own an anole, frog, salamander, Nothing. Now this is ridiculous. The government is getting more and more control over us every year.

they are getting this control because we allow it, simple as that. we get on these forums and moan and groan about it and that is as far as it goes. We do not support the very few groups that lobby for us. We do not go to work shops that are set up for us to lobby to the people actually voting on the laws. we do not put a possitive face forward to the public regarding herp keepers (not being mean but how many snake keepers that have facial tattoos and multiple piercings do you know and purposefully carry their snakes down street to shock people). I have tattoos and am proud of them but their are times when showing them off is not appropriate. I know it's everyone's right to express themselves but it's not OUR RIGHT TO KEEP SNAKES and if we want to continue to continue having this priviledge we better get active and responsible. Those that disagree with the proposals that the florida wildlife commission is going to pass are crazy and short sighted as they are the only way these beautiful animals will be allowed to be kept in this state or any others.
