Best way to measure cage surface temps

m77 Jan 03, 2007 06:11 PM

To measure the surface temp of say an aquarium with Flexwatt Heat Tape underneath .
If I used like a aquarium strip thermometer laid in the bottom, would that give a accurate enough reading. ? – if so what are the better strips to use ?

If I used a IRT would that read the surface of the glass or go through & read the tape below? I’m guessing there would not be enough of a difference to matter.
At this point I have neither, and if the strips work ok that’d be my 1’st choice.

Thanks

Best bet is to get a temp gun (like from tempgun.com). You can pick one up from ebay, local reptile show, or even the kingsnake classifieds for just about $20. They are very accurate and you are not limited to use with one cage. Very good investment.
