Adding a second baby Redfoot....

largirl Jan 04, 2007 12:14 PM

I have posted here before about my baby Redfoot (about 4 inches long). He's doing great and absolutely thriving. While I've had him for about a month, he was actually purchased as an Xmas present for my dad - I was just caring for him until we could give it to him. He was thrilled!

My sister and I now want one of our own (to co-own). Would it stress out Mylo (his new name after we discovered one of his scutes had an "M" shaped marking on it) to add another, similarly sized baby to his environment? The enclosure is large enough, but I know that turtles tend to be solitary unless it's mating season. The last thing I want is to harm Mylo by introducing another one. If I do so, is there a quarantine period I should follow before adding the new one? Is there a special way to introduce them or anything special I need to modify in his current enclosure to make it comfortable for two? I have heard that male-male is a bad combination, but at this age they are impossible to sex. If they were to grow up together, would the issues with that combination lessen?

Mylo:

Okay, I guess my dad just posted below! I'm not very good with estimating, so I'll split the difference and say he's three inches long.

Just remember if you do get another tortoise, you need to have a quarintein period. That way you dont get disease transfered all that. Also a redfooted tortoise would not stress with another, as long as you have a big enough enclosure ect...

How big is the enclosure?

I would quarantine a new baby for a month before putting them together. If you got the baby from the same breeder you may not need to quarantine though.

Also make sure you will be able to house two adults and seperate them if needed.

Let me know when you are ready for your new Redfoot.

I have about 25 05 and 06 babies I produced ranging from 2 1/2 to 5 inches.
They have been housed together , outside since they hatched.

My prices are very fair. I think they are the best on Kingsnake.

Good luck regardless,

I'm actually in Nebraska, so it's way to cold to ship here right now. I have on that I'm looking at here in Omaha, but if we need more, I'll let you know!
