Reptiles Pinnacles Nat'l Mon.

arborealmama May 20, 2003 09:10 PM

Hello - Went on a looooong hike Sat at the Pinnacles, saw checkered garter, juvenlie gopher, alligator and fence lizards, I think a skink, but it was fast! My question is this - saw a snake that I think is a ringneck, but I can not find a photo. Olive green, about 9" long, slender head, wide (approx.1/4" band of bright orange around neck. Such a beautiful shade of green - was it a ringneck? Crossed my path as I was coming out of the balconies caves, shady wet area, slid into the grass. Thanks for your help

From your description, yes, it sounds like a ringneck to me. Nice report!

Thanks James - wish I had my camera out. Thanks for the info on the ringneck. I had never seen one before and was very excited.
