atomicjade Jan 04, 2007 10:47 PM

Hello all. I've been looking at the ingredients to my horses' feed (Purina Equine Senior) and all of them seem like they would be beneficial (or atleast, not harmful) to my sulcata's diet. What do you think?

Crude Protein, % not less than 14%
Fat, % not less than 4.5%
Fiber, % not more than 16%
Calcium, minimum % not less than .5%
Calcium, maximum % not more than .6%
Phosphorus, minimum % not less than .40%
Copper, ppm not less than 55
Zinc, ppm not less than 220
Vit. A, IU/lb not less than 3000
Selenium, ppm not less than .3

I'm very reluctant to feed mine any commercial foods. I know that horse diets like this were recommended 10 years or so ago but I just don't trust anything like that.
One reason why is that I don't feed mine any type of pellet at all.. I know someone who does.
This someone has had problems with his tortoise developing urinary stones. The tort has had surgery twice because of that & this guy thinks they are simply prone to urinary stones problem. I disagree.. I think it's the food he feeds & possibly a lack of water offered to his tort.

I stick with natural foods only & so far my vet still tells me that my tortoise is her most healthy tortoise patient.
