gender confusion

tsusnakeguy Jan 05, 2007 02:02 AM

Has anyone ever had two snakes that you were almost 100 percent positive were males, try and mate with each other while there was a perfectly good female in the cage with them. Because I have two that I could swear are males. The big one was sold as a male and has huge spurs, and yea yea yea i know people will say you can't always tell by spurs and you need to probe but i dont know how so I am saying I am almost 100% sure. But I have a big female in that cage and the little one looked like he was going to try with her but i think she is a nun so I am afraid he has turned to the other male.

IMO if you are judging by spurs alone you are 50% sure of gender But, that is my opinion...probe for best results..if you can't, find someone who can!

I just realized I was assuming you were talking about your columbians...but of course the spur rule varies with species! Sorry if I jumped the gun!

I love my Dumerils! They are great because the girls don't appear to have spurs at all! I would hate to try and probe one of my big girls!

you can feel them just after the cloaca, and on males it feels like balls inder the skin, which is the hemipenes curled up in there. If you could try i9t on known individuals first it would be easier too.

Good luck,
Caden
