stunted growth

reamk924 Jan 05, 2007 11:05 AM

I was given a small male bearded dragon. He is very small for being about 2 years old like the girl said. She told me she only fed him greens and kept the right lighting on him when he was young, but just never fed him any type of protein foods i.e. crickets, worms, etc. If I gave him a diet of mostly proteins now, would that get him to grow or will he be stuck small?

Really hard to say. However I wouldn't switch him to a completely insect diet. You can definitely add more insects to his diet, but still provide greens. He may grow some more as he is not too old but I don't think he will get as big as he would have, if he had a proper diet from the start.

well

i own a lovely girl named zabaa we got her from a reptile place she was free to a good home she was not happy there i guess and wanted get out so we took her home ..

she was 10 inches .. and a small baby girl .

( around 9 am ) her diet consists of crickets (as many as she can eat).. coated with a vitmians .. and calcuim every other day in the morning / give fresh collard, mustard green's (also use a bottle to spray them ) gives them water

a treat would be fruit like grapes ,green beans, strawberries(rarley) ) ... as well // in bite size peices able to eat of corse or proccesser.
( take extra crickets out )

next feeding is supper time ! woot anyways.

( its 6 pm )
usually she has eatten her greens all or most of them too as a healthy snack by now

( pm we dont coat the cricket's we just feed them to her just like in the morning as much as she would like to eat
and some more greens too

then we give them water ... as well
( and we spray them expecially when there in shed )

Also it is possible your beared dragon might grow alittle with the crickets im not sure how big he/she will get but im hoping this helps

so now .. zabaa is 18 inches and is still a runt she all of a sudden ate better and grew some were so proud of her
im sure you know most of my blurt randomness but i hope this helps get a idea of what to feed
below is a picture of zabaa
