question-my first GTP -advise me

lirontt Jan 05, 2007 04:57 PM

Hey there everyone,
I have a question, regarding chondros. In this very moment I'm getting closer and closer to getting my first GTP and I was hoping you guys could advise me.

I want to know the region the parents of the snake I'm about to get come from and if you know this "color phase"?...

The keeper of the snakes said the male is some sort of a GTP having blue patches all over itself and the female is having white patches all over her as well.
Therefore, I wanted to ask if this color phase is a special color phase/pattern (especially if genetically carried) or the natural color of chondros coming from certain locations...

The snake looks very aberrant, and its keeper said it is something special, I wanted to ask you guys what is the location these snakes come from and if this is the natural look of a chondro or some sort of a special color pattern..

How will these look as adults?

Thank you very much,

P.S, I don't live in the US.

Did the breeder tell you where his animals are supposed to be from? Locality, or "regions" are hard to prove as most animals are captured and brought to the farms and they lable them according to traits for the most part. There are a number of types that match your discription and babies are almost impossible to tell as they change quite drastically from their neonate looks. Do you have pictures of the parents?

The keeper itself doesn't know the locations the parents come from, the question is in which localities such snakes ussualy comes. He said it's a "ciclop hybrid"-- what is a ciclop hybrid, and do hybrids "count" less?

There is a Cyclops locale, however, most chondros are hybrids. Many people cross two types to get a "hybrid". I don't really think of them as hybrids however as they are the same species, just from different areas. I will be crossing my Sorong type with a Jayapura type and technically, those who are into pure locales would consider it a hybrid. They are worth no more or less than any other save perhaps lines that produce a certain color. High yellow lines that are proven, or high blue lines for instance. Designers are also more expensive because of their wild coloration. I don't think you'll be able to find an animal that you could prove without a doubt came from the area it was named for. Unless you personally go to Indonesia and find one and mark it with a GPS there's very little chance of knowing if your animal came from that area for certain. I'm not sure it really matters though. If you are purchasing a chondro for the purpose of breeding a high dollar chondro, you'll need to invest in something more than an unknown lineage animal. If you like the looks of this animal though...buy it!! You'll never know what it will look like when it changes anyway. You might get more or less than the parents. That's the fun of these critters. It's not about the worth.
