Average hatchling weight of Uni's?

Weekendherper Jan 06, 2007 10:20 AM

I'm trying to come up with an educated guess as to when my Uni was hatched. When I bought him, he was 70 grams in mid Feb 06. (He's now 530 grams) I have no info on the parents and I assume he was captive hatched. Any idea on average how big they are at birth?

Thanks.

I would guess in the 20-40 gram range and would say yours was born the summer before you got it.

mike's answer is what i thought also, probably an 05. they are fairly smallish, more slender than you might think at birth......belying what they will become some years down the road, especially the males which are absolutely huge at full maturation....

Basically what I thought too. I do wonder if it was born later in the year though being only 70 grams in February of the following year?
